How to Empower Professional Women

Judy Hoberman is an author, speaker, coach, and radio show host. Fox Business gave her the title “Gender Expert”. And she’s owning it!

She started her career as a door-to-door salesperson. Her very first door was her mom’s… where she got her first “No!”. How could her own mom say “no” to her?!

Her mom shared two things with her, which formed Judy’s entire sales career:

  1. Just because someone loves you doesn’t mean that they’re going to buy something if they don’t need it.
  2. Just because someone loves you, it means that they’re going to share you with their friends.

“If I can’t bring value and if I can’t make a difference, I’m not gonna do it.” – Judy Hoberman

Judy went on to apply her sales skills in various industries: commercial roofing, copiers, and insurance. In all those realms, she was the only female in the sales force.

She was told by her male colleagues: “You take too long and you ask too many questions. You’re such a girl… everybody has to be your friend.” To Judy, it simply meant “building relationships”.

After just 3 months selling insurance, her clients came in purely from referrals. She built such strong relationships with all her prospects and clients that they sent her all the business she can handle. She never had to do cold calling again!

You have to open yourself up so that people feel that they get to know you. – Judy Hoberman

Judy discussed some simple steps to build up your career confidence:

  1. Look at what you’re doing, and decide where your strengths are.
  2. What part of what you’re doing makes you feel good?
  3. Where do you know that you can bring value?

If you don’t want to tell people what you’re doing because you’re embarrassed, don’t do it. There’s a reason why you shouldn’t be in there – Judy Hoberman

On the topic of generosity, Judy advised that it’s not all about money. We can be generous with our time. We can also be generous with sincere compliments and kind words.

Listen to the episode to hear Judy’s energetic and empowering voice as she generously shares even more nuggets of wisdom!
