God gave us two ears and one mouth. We ought to use them in proportion – Robert McFarland

Robert talked about the first step to changing the dynamics of a company culture. The best place to start for anybody, especially for leaders, is to listen. He emphasized that listening is one of the skills that is lost in today’s culture. People feel like they always have to be talking and they’re not stopping to listen.

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. – Abraham Lincoln

People tend to focus on what they have known up to this point, and they get stuck in certain patterns. And they don’t realize that they are allowing negative thoughts to run their lives. It’s important for us to “think about what we’re thinking about”.

You become trusted by trusting. – Robert McFarland

Robert stated that if people don’t think that you trust them, they will not trust you. So to earn that trust, a leader should trust their team members. Combining that with genuine listening will build the relationship of trust much faster.

A face-to-face meeting can replace 35 emails. – Sandra Crawford Williamson

Robert, Sandra, and John affirmed the idea of meeting eye-to-eye for important discussions, instead of merely shooting an email or text message.

You teach what you tolerate. – John Ramstead

In terms of creating culture in your organization, it’s really about making sure that what you’re saying is legit. You have to celebrate the kind of things what you want to see in your organization. You also need to watch what you permit. It’s those little things that you allow to slip in that prevents you from creating the culture you want to have.
