Greg Yates’ life as the guest for today’s podcast episode brings light to the journey of brokenness into breaking through, from success to swamps, to success once more. in his life experiences and narration, we will undeniably learn a lot from it and hopefully, reflect on how we could also turn our lives into a successful and triumphant one.
“I was looking for validation. I thought that I really do not have the value unless I perform.” – Greg Yates
We most of the time looking for validation or affirmation coming from other people. Most of the time, we assess our self-worth based on how other people perceive us. We make our value based on their own lenses. The thing is, we always end up feeling sad or heartbroken about it. Greg also had the same perception way back. He wanted to perform, he wanted to shine, he wanted to be the best so that he will also look the best in the eyes of others. He emphasized that if this is our purpose in life, we will never be happy.
“In realizing our brokenness that we are able to actually identify what God’s high created purpose is for our lives.” -Greg Yates
Greg created a path of purpose and beauty out of brokenness. We most of the time see brokenness as something unfortunate, bad luck, and even destruction. At times, instead of fretting about it and thinking about ourselves negatively, we have to view it as an opportunity to learn and to grow. Perhaps, we really need to be broken, in order for us to be whole again. We have to go through the scourging heat of fire for us to truly shine.
“I cannot control the outcomes, but my vulnerability and willingness of who I am today and let God do it His ways.” – Greg Yates
When we rely our happiness and purpose based on what other people have to say and based on our own definition of purpose, we end up in the loophole of searching running. But if we begin to see everything as part of God’s design, we become more confident and assured that we are destined to something better. We have to stop controlling the outcome. Rather, we have to begin trusting God and giving our best for a better outcome.
Greg’s ability to empower people to turn brokenness into wholes and life of purpose is indeed admirable. May he serve as an
example for all of us in journeying in this life.
