Today, Martha Brangenberg is leading us in a prayer with a special focus on the mountain of government. Martha is a Business and Marriage Mentor and Radio Talk Show co-Host at iWork4Him.

God showed us the importance of honoring governing authority when Jesus said in Matthew 21 to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. The kingdom perspective is that everything in the heavens and on earth is the Lord’s and it is HIS kingdom. He is over it all.

It is at His discretion that men are made great and given strength. May we seek God’s will for our Nation and humbly come before Him.

The next several weeks in America will determine the future course of our country, and it is time for us to specifically be praying for the faces of the government mountain at all levels. Our government leaders serve very selflessly; they put their lives out there for the good of the citizens and they certainly need our prayers right now.

Many years ago, as a young Mom, I was trying to figure out ways to teach my children how to love and respect authority – in our home, school, church, and government, and I was really struggling with how to teach that Biblically. I ran across 1 Chronicles 29:11-13. It became a pillar in our home regarding God’s power around us and for those in authority.

1 Chronicles 29:11-13 New Living Translation:

11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12 Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. 13 “O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!

The part that really struck me is that it is at God’s hand that people are made great and given strength.  I pray that we can join together over the next several weeks and focus on praying for those that are running for election as well as those that are appointed.

Prayer

Father, I pray right now that you will guide and direct each one of us and remind us to pray for those in authority in our government. Thank you for each person who has taken the step to stand up for what they believe and be put into office or to work in an office using their gifts, talents and abilities for the Kingdom.

Lord, whether they be at the local level, the state level or the federal level, I thank you for each person who has put their country first for their career, that they have said, “I believe in this country and I want to work to make it great.” Lord, you have given us a great foundation and I pray that we will build upon that every day.

Lord, I lift up each person, whether they work in the mailroom or in the Oval Office, that you would, at your hand, make them great and give them strength. In your precious name, Amen.
