Today, Ben Merkle leads us in a prayer for educators. Ben is the president of New Saint Andrews College, a Christian liberal arts college in Moscow, Idaho. Ben is also a teaching elder at Christ Church and the author of several books.
In this time of tumultuous cultural upheaval in America, one of the things that we have seen has been how powerfully the world of education has been leveraged against the advance of the Gospel and the ability of Christians to peacefully live out their faith.
In Ephesians, the apostle Paul says that fathers are to discipline their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, but many of us are faced with educational systems that are dead set on undermining that kind of faith.
If we want to see a revival in America, we need to also pray for a revival in our schools.
Please join me in prayer:
Prayer
Our heavenly Father, we lift up to You the schools of America, our teachers, and our administrators. Please pour out your Holy Spirit on our schools, such that we would see a complete transformation of the American educational system, from our preschools all the way to our graduate schools.
Please strengthen the teachers who are laboring in institutions that are hostile to You. Make their lives and their work a powerful testimony to your transforming grace and use them to draw lost souls to yourself by showing them the power of your sacrificial love.
Where we are compromised, where we have complied with commands and policies that are opposed to your Word, please give us both wisdom and courage to know what faithfulness would look like in these difficult situations and that we would have the faith to stand and obey your Word.
Give us teachers and administrators who have the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that can stand in the fiery furnace of opposition and not be burned. Please work to transform our schools or to even raise up completely new schools, that we could have an entire nation of schools that are dedicated to declaring your glory in all that they teach.
Father, we know that what we are asking is absolutely impossible for us to accomplish, but we also know that if You pour out your Spirit on our schools, then this is as good as done. So we ask that You would supernaturally transform our schools by the power of your Holy Spirit.
We ask all of this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Ben Merkle is the president of New Saint Andrews College, a Christian liberal arts college in Moscow Idaho that aims to graduate leaders who shape culture living faithfully under the lordship of Jesus Christ. He is also a teaching elder at Christ Church. He holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford and is the author of several books. He is a regular conference speaker and church preacher. He and his lovely wife Bekah have five amazing children and one ill-mannered dog.
