Lynn Wilford Scarborough leads us in a prayer for the media today. Lynn is the founder of EmPowerCom, a firm specializing in providing Master Communication and media training for corporations, businesses, and non-profits. She was the TV coach for over 200 news organizations, including ABC, CBS, CNN, and FOX, and has provided public relations services for events like the United Cry and Global Celebration for Women.

There are many peaks in the mountain of media, such as journalism or social media, and there are many different parts within that mountain. Today I am going to pray for journalists because I was a television news consultant for over 20 years.

One thing that I learned about journalists is that most of them really care about making the world a better place. They want to do the right thing. Unfortunately, sometimes they can’t. We need to stop cursing the media and begin praying more for journalists.

Prayer

Lord, You have commanded us to pray for those in authority and we know that all authority comes from You. Thank You for our nation, our Constitution, freedom of speech and the incredible journalistic systems that have blessed our nation for over two centuries.

We know that You have created all things and given people the talents that have developed media tools that we all depend upon. Therefore, we pray and bless all of those people involved in journalism, whether it is on television, radio, print, books, internet, video —that they all may fulfill the purpose that YOU created them for.

We thank You and appreciate the countless hours of service and personal sacrifices that they and their families have made to provide information for us. Protect them as they travel and strengthen them in all things. We thank You for their reporting, especially for giving voice to those people that don’t have a voice.

Father, You said that we reap what we sow and we need to repent of words and curses spoken in ignorance against those in journalism. Please, forgive us for not praying for them and for media leaders everywhere.

Forgive us for cursing instead of blessing; hating instead of loving; judging instead of listening and for being poor witnesses as followers of Jesus. Heavenly Father, by your great love and mercy for those who work in the profession of journalism, we pray that:

1) You restore to their hearts a love of journalism, truth and the desire to make the world a better place.
2) Open their minds, hearts, and spirits to eternal perspective. Increase their discernment and renew their thoughts.
3) Give courage to those who are pure of heart and give humility to those who have lost focus.
4) Encourage those who are weary, heal those who have been wounded, punished and persecuted for fighting for the truth. Bless your Christian leaders within media circles everywhere, that they may gain favor and they may be blessed with your creative wisdom in all things.

And for our nation, Father, we ask that You loose the Spirit of truth and revelation over journalists and media leaders everywhere. Holy Spirit, we ask that your light pierce the canopies of deception that are over our own minds, our cities and our nation. Pierce those canopies of false information and let the compasses of life be reset with your truth.

Lord, we ask that You will bless the journalists everywhere, both in the cities and in the nation, so that your truth will be heard, your will be done and Thy Kingdom come. Amen.

Thank you so much for joining us and praying this prayer! A resource I would recommend if you are concerned about the impact of social media is the Netflix special The Social Dilemma. It explains how social media has been controlling our lives and how we feel powerless to control it.

Bless you and thank you for praying. Please share this with others because we need to pray for all of our leaders, including those in the media.

God bless you, and God bless America!
