Today, Pastor Cedric Nelms leads us in prayer! Cedric is the lead pastor at Chosen Generation Fellowship Church, and he has been working with World Impact, LA Voice and the Christian Community Development Association. He was the radio host of the Chosen Generation Ministry Radio Show, an internet program/podcast that deals with the intersection of culture, life, and faith. Cedric also has his own financial coaching business, where he helps people build their financial house. Cedric starts his prayer off today with a section of Scripture from Matthew 25:34-40:
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed You, or thirsty and gave You drink? When did we see You a stranger and welcome You, or naked and clothe You? And when did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’
“The King will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these, my brothers, you did it to Me.’”
Today, we’re praying for education, but more than that, we want to pray for the education of those that are considered the least of these. I have been working with a group of folks dealing with achievement and the achievement gap that is happening with black and brown students.
I want to pray for those families in this whole distant learning season. I want to pray for those parents and those students and those folks who are trying to figure this thing out; for parents and substitute teachers—they’re trying to work or they’re out of work and they become a full-fledged teacher, but they don’t have credentials. They didn’t go to school for that. They didn’t get trained for that, but they find themselves in this season of having to become the primary educator for their student, for their child.
And so, I just want to pray for them today. Let’s pray:
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You today. We thank You for what it is that You have done. We thank You, Lord, for what it is that You are doing. We thank you God, for what it is that You will do.
You are our Sustainer. You are our Creator. You are the one who is our Way Maker. Lord, we ask You right now to cover those parents that are struggling with educating their children in this distant learning pandemic season. Heavenly Father, we pray for those black and brown parents that are on the margins: the ones who don’t have the ability to have the financing to get a tutor or don’t have the ability to do some things creatively to make sure that their students stay on task and are on par.
We pray, Heavenly Father, for those who are trying to figure this thing out; as we say commonly, Lord, they’re “building the plane while flying it.” We pray for those parents that have found themselves having to have multiple laptops; trouble with WiFi and trying to teach different age ranges of students, Heavenly Father.
Sometimes they are trying to go to work; sometimes trying to find work; sometimes trying to keep a marriage together; sometimes trying to understand what it is that they’re supposed to do, because this is the new normal. We pray for them right now.
Lord, just give them the strength, undergird them; give them the ability to rely more on You. When they get tired, help them understand that their energy is found in You; when they get discomfort or despondent, to find their comfort in You, Heavenly Father. Allow for them to understand that where they are and what they’re doing, they are not by themselves. If they cannot find other physical beings that can relate to what they’re going through, remind them that You know what they’re going through and You got them, Lord.
Allow for us (as the text we read) to be the ones who can give the drink when someone is thirsty; allow for us to be the ones who can feed someone when they’re hungry; allow for us to be the ones who are able to give out of our abundance to those who may lack; allow for us to be the ones who look out for the least of these.
Don’t allow for us just to put it all on your plate, Heavenly Father. We ask you, Lord, to allow for us to be the ambassadors that are the ones who are able to go and minister to the people that need administering to.
Thank you, Father God, for all that You do. We thank You, Lord, for continuing to sit on that throne. We pray these prayers in your darling son, Jesus’ name. Let us say, “Amen!”
God bless you! May He keep you. Be safe. Keep the faith!
