Today, Dave Kahle leads us in a prayer for marketplace ministry! For the past 35 years, Dave has served as a consultant, trainer, speaker and the author of 13 books. Dave also writes three weekly e-zines and produces two weekly podcasts.
For generations, Christianity has proclaimed that it is defined by what one does within the confines of the institutional church; in other words, you can go to church on Sunday and forget God on Monday through Friday. This has led to one of the greatest flaws in the modern church because millions of Christian workers and businesspeople have been relegated to the sidelines, convinced that their work does not matter to God.
As a result, literally millions of people who could have been blessed by a Christian-influenced work environment have never been exposed to the grace and the providence of a loving God operating through Christians in the marketplace.
God is changing that. The movement to recognize that business is ministry is growing. If we could see that concept universally accepted and implemented, it would unleash literally millions of business/ministers into the marketplace, and we could change the world in a few years.
Colossians 3:23-24 says this:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Let’s pray:
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being who You are. Thank You for loving us and guiding us through your Word and your Spirit. Thank You for distributing your gifts among us and sprinkling us like salt into every nook and cranny of society. Father, we understand that everything we do, if we do it for You, is ministry.
We confess that we have harbored a lie within our hearts and our minds. We confess that we have compartmentalized our Christianity from our businesses and careers. We confess, Father, that we have seen them as separate in spite of your Word telling us otherwise.
Lord, we repent of that idea. Lord, we will no longer hold onto the idea that business is not ministry; we will no longer accept that. We will no longer act on the basis of it and we will do exactly the opposite, Father. We will accept and implement the idea that business is ministry.
Father, we ask that You empower us to see our careers and businesses as ministry.
We ask that You empower us to serve You and expand your Kingdom. We ask that your Spirit energize the movement, unleash millions of business ministers, and that You move each one of us to fully accept our roles as ministers in your Kingdom.
Lord, we are excited to see how your Spirit will flourish and your Kingdom reign, as a result of this. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
