God loves ALL of us, even if we don’t love him back. Often times at work, we’re surrounded by people who don’t know Jesus, people who don’t have any idea where hope, peace and joy come from. Fourteen years ago, the Lord showed me how I should pray for the workplace when He led me to this verse:
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
How often do we think of what we learned on Sunday as we go to work Monday through Friday?
Often, we’re just thinking about the work we have to do and we’re thinking about the next task, email, or an upcoming meeting.
God asks us to pray for the people that we work alongside.
PRAYER
First, I pray for the people that I work alongside each and every day by name, whether it’s my bosses, my employees, my customers, my vendors, or the people I see every day.
I pray for them by name. Then, I look for ways to serve them over and above what my job requires me to do, because that gives me an opportunity to minister to people.
I look for ways to befriend people outside of the workplace, because it gives me an opportunity to really share my heart with them.
I look for ways to pray with them at work. When I notice them having a rough day, I ask them, “How are you doing?” When someone tells me they are “just fine,” they might be really freaked out, insecure, neurotic, or emotional, but don’t want to share. If you sense something is wrong, ask questions and listen. Then I say, “Can I pray for you about that?” In my workplace, I need to be a person of excellence.
Father, as we’re praying together, we want to change our nation, but help me to change my nation by praying for the people that I work with each and every day. Thank you, Father. Amen.
