Scott Beebe | 5 Elements of Creating A Family Vision

Building a Thriving Family with Intentionality

Scott Beebe is a business coach who liberates small business owners from their chaos. He returns to the Eternal Leadership Podcast to dig deeper into the core of true leadership. Hint: It starts with the family vision statement.

He started off with an analogy: When we hop on a car and invite someone to join us for a ride, the first thing the other person would ask is, “Where are we going?” Yet in our families, we hop in the car (so to speak) to lead, but for the most part, we don’t really know where we’re going.

Our mission is to be a light through adventure, creativity, and time around the table. – Scott Beebe

The mission statement is what drives you out of bed every morning.

Scott prioritizes the family table, but it doesn’t have to be their dinner table. His family finds every possible opportunity to eat and hang out together, not just at home, but at events like one of his kids’ baseball games. They do that because they want to have kids that are going to be great adults to sit down and have coffee with.

To me, there is no difference between a vision story for a family and a vision story for a business. Scott Beebe

The vision story is nothing more than the detailed snapshot of the future of your family, business, baseball team, etc.

The purpose of the family vision story is to make decision-making easier. When the family gets to a point where they need to make a tough decision on what to do next, all they need to do is put the situation up against the vision statement. If it is in line with the vision story… proceed; if not… pass!

What are we afraid of missing out on: what everybody else is doing? Or are we afraid of missing out on something unique and creative that we can put that nobody else is doing? Scott Beebe

Scott encouraged the cessation of going after the idea of “balance”, and instead, going after intentionality. And that’s where the vision story can help immensely.

An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching. – Mahatma Gandhi

Vision without execution is a hallucination. – Joe Calloway
