Have you ever felt like you have fallen into a pit and you don’t know how to climb out? Or have you been going through significant adversity and you are trying to make sense of it all?  Our life is not always smooth sailing!  At some point, adversity the joseph callingwill come our way. In the midst of what seems to be a never-ending struggle and feelings of weakness and exhaustion, we may ask why God is allowing these things to happen and even doubt His love for us.

In his new book, The Joseph Calling: 6 Stages To Discover, Navigate And Fulfill Your Purpose, Os Hillman teaches that one of the silver linings to tribulation is that we discover why we are here in this world.

In studying the lives of the great leaders in the Bible like Joseph, Paul, and David, Os noticed that these men underwent some form of crisis before they became the people God designed them to be. In analyzing their lives, Os came up with what he called the ‘six stages to discover, navigate and fulfill your purpose.’

He explains that first, there is some form of recruitment through some type of crisis event which leads to character development. The isolation stage is next, which is when God deposits something in us. The cross-phase is characterized by the betrayal from people we love, and the problem-solving stage is where one starts to help others solve their problems. The final stage is networks, which Os describes as working with other people to multiply results.

What is the problem I’m solving for people? Os says that his answer to this question is a result of what God is doing in his life.  Os interviewed numerous people and discovered that many have a real disconnect between their faith lives and their working lives.  Os has found his true calling and purpose inhelping others reestablish that connection.

“If you will turn your heart fully for the purposes of God in that, then God will turn something good out of it.”
