If you can lead teenagers, you can rock it anywhere else. – John Ramstead

Agreeing with John, Kristen acknowledged that what was true in the high school classroom teaching teenagers is the same thing that’s true in leading adults.

If the information that you want to share with somebody isn’t going to help them win, they may not really care about it.Kristen Ivy

Kristen emphasized that when communicating with a child (or even an adult), it’s on you to figure out as much as you can about that other person and how what you have to share will help them win, so you can bridge that gap and help bring them along the journey.

If you don’t understand what’s happening in the minds and in the world of preschoolers and elementary kids, if you can’t put yourself in their shoes, then you may always fail in communicating what you think you’re communicating.

Sometimes we forget to just be fascinated by another person. Kristen Ivy

There is an opportunity in every phase of a child’s growth to change his or her future. Don’t ever feel that it’s too late.

Our parent guilt doesn’t make us better parents.Kristen Ivy

Kristen warned parents about the tendency to plan out a child’s future because of certain achievements. Just because a child threw a touchdown pass on his little league team, it doesn’t mean that he’s going to be a professional football player… and that’s okay. It’s okay to just celebrate that moment, but it won’t determine what they’ll be 20 years from now.

As a parting note, Kristen advised: Do what you can to rediscover your kid and show up in their world.
