How To Lead, Equip, and Launch Others
Phillip Van Hooser is an author, speaker, trainer, and a leader with a huge passion to develop the next generation of emerging leaders. In three decades as a professional speaker, he has given over 4500 presentations! In this episode, he talked about the things he wished he had known as he was facing more and more challenging leadership situations.
Being vulnerable does not mean that you are weak. It just means that you are being honest and authentic about who you are. – Phillip Van Hooser
Phillip believes that almost anyone can lead, and as a matter of fact, almost everyone does lead. They don’t always lead well, but they do lead. If you have the ability to influence and impact even just one other individual, then that puts you in a leadership position.
The most effective leaders are the ones that wake up in the morning and say, “I am going to do my best to lead today by preparing myself first and by being prepared for opportunities that may present themselves.” These are the intentional leaders.
Leadership the ability to offer service and the willingness to take action. – Phillip Van Hooser
If a leader wants to make a difference, then they need to serve something that’s bigger than themselves. It could be a cause, a community, a church, or a movement. If they are serving something else, it takes away the “selfish” motivation.
But it’s not just a matter of service, it’s a matter of doing something. There’s a lot of people who are willing to serve, but are not willing to act.
The essential element of leadership is followers. If your focus is more on other people than yourself, then you are in a position to lead effectively for a long-term purpose.
Skill mastery is the ability to perform a skill under increasing levels of stress. – Anonymous
