Rachel Marie Martin | The Brave Art of Motherhood

Fight Fear, Gain Confidence, and Find Yourself Again

Rachel Marie Martin is a blogger, speaker, author, marketer, podcaster, and mom of seven kids. She has the ability to turn the most mundane thing or situation into something interesting. She started her blog in 2005 and has since been constantly putting in the work to further enhance that superpower.

According to Book Authority, her book The Brave Art of Motherhood is “one of the best motherhood books of all time“.

I did not realize that simple things could push me to the brink. – Rachel Marie Martin, talking about little struggles that pile up and threaten to push one over the edge

When you have heart issues that need addressing, you can’t just rearrange stuff around you. You have to get to the root of not only why, but how the problem happened. And then, work to fix it. Rachel talks about this in her book, addressing the mask that we put on to hide the problems we face, which causes the problems to fester and grow underneath it.

When we live like a slave to our emotions, it’s like we’re allowing a 7-year old child to take the keys to the car and drive it around with us in the back seat. That is not saying that we should ignore our emotions. It just means that we are more than those emotions and labels. We should still allow ourselves to feel, but not allow those feelings to define us.

If we’re empty ourselves, we can’t pour into other people. – Rachel Marie Martin

There’s a reason why during an emergency, airlines require adults to put on the oxygen masks first before putting them on their kids. You have to be able to take care of yourself before you could take care of anybody else. But somehow, “mommy guilt” shows up and takes over our judgement.

There’s so much beauty and power in showing up for our kid. – Rachel Marie Martin
