A Road Towards Success
Today’s episode features Warwick Fairfax, a man who has moved beyond one of the most spectacular business failures in his native Australia to build a life of significance. Growing up as heir to a media dynasty that controlled Australia’s most influential media properties, he launched a privatization bid for the company in 1987 that resulted in the family losing control after 150 years in charge. Instead of letting the failure ruin him, though, his faith and his unfailing dedication to making a difference in the world led him to found Crucible Leadership to help others survive and thrive through life’s trials.
Fairfax emphasizes in today’s episode that all of us are born with gifts and talents – but far too few of us fully understand what they are and how to utilize them to cast a vision for our lives. It was through embracing the lessons his failure taught him, and discovering what he was truly gifted at and passionate about, that Fairfax discovered his purpose in life and made it a reality.

Fairfax learned in the aftermath of his failed takeover of the family business that he was not cut out for running a big corporation. Instead, he realized he is a reflective adviser, one who helps others by leading them to discover their unique talents and putting them to use making the world a better place. He created Crucible Leadership to help others learn from their crucible moments, discover how they were designed, craft a vision for making a difference and making that vision a reality.
We all long to lead a life of significance – of making the world a better place. But discovering our role in the story God has equipped us for is not always a linear journey. As Fairfax emphasizes, by learning from our crucibles we can recalibrate perspective and achieve true joy and significance. We become more fulfilled individuals and more effective leaders.
