The F Word that Can Set You Free… Forgiveness
Casey Cease was a teenager who had some issues with depression. When he was 17, after having a little too much to drink at a party, he got behind the wheel of his 360-horsepower muscle car. His friend was trying to get him to stop and get off the car, but through some freak accident, Casey ran over and killed him on the spot.
While at the hospital recovering from his own injuries, Casey was depressed and on suicide watch. His friend’s parents, who had just lost their son, paid him a visit at the hospital. What happened next will blow you mind! Listen to Casey’s narration of what happened before, during, and after that fateful series of events.
If something in the past makes you feel unforgivable or unlovable, or if you’re in a situation where you need to give or receive forgiveness, this episode might help. Casey’s story and the lessons he learned are so powerful, so compelling, and so liberating.
As you listen to this interview, think of that person that you need to forgive (it might be yourself or somebody else) and how to have that conversation.
Casey expressed his concern that so many people project onto God what they expect Him to be. We have a bad tendency to create a God in our image or the image of our earthly father, rather than getting to know the God and His image that we were created in. Casey added that we project onto God a lot of junk that is not only unfair, but unbiblical. It robs us from the joy we were meant to have.
Towards the end of the episode, Sandra asked a great question about how parents can show vulnerability to their kids without losing their respect. Watch out for Casey’s equally great response.
