226 Jim & Martha Brangenberg | Business As Your Mission Field

Connecting Our Faith with the Work That We Do Everyday

Jim and Martha Brangenberg have known each other for 36 years (married for 32 years). They were both successful entrepreneurs individually before they decided to join forces to address the sacred-secular divide. Together, they mentor entrepreneurs and disciple couples in connecting their faith with the work they do.

In this episode, the inspirational couple discussed practical ideas on how to bring one’s faith into work, what it looks like, practical implementation tactics, and how to be Kingdom leaders.

Why are we leaving Jesus at the door when we punch the time clock? – Martha Brangenberg

Martha encouraged everyone to invite God into the conversation and acknowledge that there could be a more powerful way to conduct business by asking ourselves, “Am I honoring God in the way I’m operating my business?”

The increase in one’s income is not necessarily the increase in the status of living, but an increase in the status of giving. – Jim Brangenberg

On the topic of money, Jim stated that when Christ-followers are taught about the Biblical principles of finance, they start to look at the world differently.

Martha shared their own financial story as a couple: they needed to get to a point of financial freedom so that if there is a time in their lives that God calls them to do something, they can’t use lack of money as an excuse for not heeding the call.

Whatever’s going on at home impacts the business owner, which is why entrepreneurs need to handle their marriage, finances, and personal life to become effective in the business world.

Also, a business owner needs to truly understand that people are his most valuable asset. To show that, he must not only invest money, but invest himself in developing relationships with his people. When employees understand that they are loved, appreciated, and valued, significantly better results come out of people in that environment.
