How to Identify, Move Towards, and Reach Your Worthwhile Dreams
Mitch Matthews had an amazing job in the pharmaceutical industry. It was a perfect fit for him when he started. But after a series of promotions and moves, it turned into a bad-fit job. By then, self-doubt started to creep in, and he started to lose hope in his career and in himself. Fortunately, he was able to take specific steps to break out of that slump.
But how did a great-fit job turn into a bad-fit job?
Mitch realized that is such a common problem that he decided to find a way to fix it. He interviewed 200 people who have found or created their “dream job”, and condensed all the advice into his book Dream Job: Redefined.
There are a whole lot of people who have got incredible talents who are put on the planet to do specific things… and they’re not doing them. So we got to do something about that. – Mitch Matthews
This is how Mitch redefines what a “dream job” is: Doing work that you love, or doing work that allows you to do something that you love.
Even though it’s a dream job, it doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily easy. It does not mean that you love every aspect of it. – Mitch Matthews
There is always at least one element of the work or job that you don’t love. You might even loathe it. Mitch calls this the “suck factor”. But if you can keep the “suck factor” to 20 percent or less… Congratulations! You have a dream job!
What if the suck factor in your job is too high?
Mitch shared some self-assessment exercises and specific steps to put yourself on the right track, starting from where you’re at, even if you’re under financial stress.

Wherever you are in your career or in your entrepreneurial journey, continue to move forward by experimenting and learning, one small step at a time.
